Philippe Coutinho will wear shirt number 14
Barcelona have today announced that club record signing Philippe Coutinho will wear the number 14 shirt for the remainder of the season. The shirt has been vacated by Javier Mascherano who has today been confirmed to join the Chinese Super League.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder joined the club on 6 January for an initial £105 million from Premier League giants Liverpool.
Coutinho arrived to the Camp Nou with an injury that had kept him out of his last couple of games in England and no shirt number had been confirmed following his arrival.
The 25-year-old could face Espanyol in the second leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final tie. The minnows from the same city lead 1-0 from the first leg.
Shirt numbers have seemingly never been of importance to Coutinho as he has worn numbers 7, 10, 23, 29 and 30 at previous clubs.
Should the new signing not feature in the derby tomorrow then he could make his debut at home to Alavés on Sunday.
