Ousmane Dembélé faces second injury lay-off

Barcelona’s former record signing Ousmane Dembélé is set to be sidelined for another month, due to another hamstring injury.

The 20-year-old joined for £96.8 million from Borussia Dortmund over the summer following the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, making the youngster the second most expensive player in the world.

Dembélé picked up his latest injury in Barcelona’s 4-2 win at Real Sociedad on Sunday.

It was only the youngster’s fourth game after recovering from his first hamstring injury picked up back in September.  Both injuries have occurred in his left thigh.

A club statement on Monday confirmed the injury:

“Tests have confirmed the player has suffered a hamstring injury of the semitendinosus muscle that does not affect the area operated on earlier in the season.

“The injury will mean he will be out for a period of around three to four weeks.”

Ousmane Dembélé dropped down to the third most expensive footballer in history after Barcelona broke their club record last week with the £142 million signing of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.

The Brazilian has yet to make his debut for Ernesto Valverde’s side as he is currently sidelined himself.  Coutinho missed Liverpool’s first two games of the New Year due to a thigh problem.
