Coutinho: Barcelona ‘is a dream come true’
New Barcelona signing Philippe Coutinho has said that joining the club ‘is a dream come true’.
The attacking midfielder joined from Liverpool in a club record £142 million on Saturday, making the Brazilian the second most expensive player in world football.
Coutinho had been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona since the summer before the Premier League giants finally accepted an offer from the runaway La Liga leaders.
Speaking to Barça TV about his arrival, Coutinho was said he was delighted to join Barcelona, saying:
“I am very happy. I have always said I am living a dream, we are very happy to be here. To be able to play football, win titles, make the fans happy and play with a smile. These are the objectives.”
The 25-year-old will be joining up with several of his football idols. He continued:
“It is incredible to know I will be around idols, with players who have such a great history like Leo (Messi), Luis (Suárez), (Andrés) Iniesta, (Gerard) Piqué, (Sergio) Busquets… all the great players. I am very happy to know I will be playing with them and I hope to be able to learn, live and win together.”
Philippe Coutinho has previous La Liga experience, also in the same city, when he spent the second half of the 2011-12 season on loan at Espanyol. Coutinho began his career in Europe with Italian giants Internazionale as an 18-year-old, where he stayed until joining Liverpool in 2012.
The attacking midfielder made 152 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, scoring 41 goals. Many of these were spectacular long-range efforts and free kicks.
